QUEER AND TRANS VICTIM ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
From its founding, part of the Community Center’s mission is to ensure that all LGBTQ+ individuals know their rights and their options. In 2026, we’re sharpening that focus with the introduction of two new programs: A free legal clinic and an LGBTQ+ victim assistance program. These compliment the Community Center’s renewed focus on training and public education through its Inclusive Practices Training Program
The Legal Clinic
The Legal Clinic provides free or low-cost legal services to address the unique systemic challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals. This can include:
legal name change
gender marker updates
employment, housing and public accommodations
family law, including adoption, custody, divorce and orders of protection
wills, power of attorney and healthcare proxies
small claims disputes and business startup
Consultation is provided free of charge to you. Representation for more in-depth support is provided at a reduced rate or, in some cases, offered pro bono.
QT-VAP, the Queer and Trans Victim Assistance Program
QT-VAP, the Queer and Trans Victim Assistance Program, offers specialized support to LGBTQ+ survivors of crime, violence, discrimination and abuse. The crime does not need to be related to your sexual orientation, gender identity or the perception thereof. Services include:
Case management
Court accompaniment
Rights counseling
Trauma counseling
Affirming, supported referrals
System navigation
Victim compensation
Safety planning
Emergency housing
Restorative justice facilitation
