Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ Community Center Presents "Parts and Pieces: A Conversation in Collage, Pottery, and Memory"

Exhibition Opening January 24 Features Three Hudson Valley Artists Exploring Assembly, Memory, and Community

KINGSTON, NY The Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ Community Center is proud to present Parts and Pieces: A Conversation in Collage, Pottery, and Memory, a new exhibition featuring the work of three Hudson Valley artists: Robert Ohnigian, Pat Horner, and Nathan Gwirtz. The exhibition opens with a public reception on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 4–6pm at Apuzzo Hall Gallery and will remain on view through March 14, 2026.

Parts and Pieces examines how fragments become whole, exploring assembly as both artistic practice and metaphor for community itself. The exhibition features collage, pottery, photography, and personal artifacts that together explore themes of memory, loss, and belonging.

Robert Ohnigian has taught collage at the Woodstock School of Art for 15 years. His compositions reconstruct found materials into new forms that honor what came before while creating something entirely new. A longstanding member of the Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ community, Ohnigian owned Clouds Gallery in Woodstock with his late partner Robert Orsini for a decade. He currently mentors artists in residence at the Byrdcliffe Art Colony.

"Like these works, LGBTQ+ community is built through gathering," the exhibition statement reads. "We assemble our histories from fragments others tried to erase. We piece together chosen families. We reconstruct belonging from what we've been told doesn't fit. Each story, each voice, each creative practice is essential to the whole. This exhibition honors that work of assembly and celebrates what endures when we create spaces where every piece matters."

The exhibition is free and open to the public during regular gallery hours. All artwork is for sale, with a portion of proceeds benefitting the Community Center's programs.

Meet The Artists

Pat Horner

Pat Horner's multidisciplinary practice spans writing, photography, collage, and abstract painting. Central to this exhibition is her 2023 book Loving Scott, which pieces together the life of her son Scott Horner, known as drag performer "Misdemeaner," who died at age 50. A celebrated makeup artist whose designs appeared in international magazines, Scott performed at legendary New York City venues.

The exhibition includes Scott's performance garments, photographs, and examples of his makeup artistry. Horner's work demonstrates that piecing together a life, even after loss, is an act of love..

Nathan Gwirtz

Nathan Gwirtz creates ornate decorative pottery featuring florals, animals, and the male figure. A graduate of Hampshire College with a concentration in Social Theory of the Built Environment, Gwirtz has been making ceramics since 2001. His coffee mugs, cups, plates, bowls, vases, and planters are individual works of art that, on a table, complement and play off of each other.

An active Center member, Gwirtz greets guests at Key of Q concerts alongside his husband, a longstanding member and soloist with the chorus.

Robert Ohnigian has taught collage at the Woodstock School of Art for 15 years. His compositions reconstruct found materials into new forms that honor what came before while creating something entirely new.
