"Unhappy Anniversary" New Paltz Marriage Equality Demonstration
![]() |
The Center and Marriage Equality of New York are co-sponsoring a peaceful demonstration this Saturday, February 27, at noon in the Peace Park in the Village of New Paltz, to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the historic same-sex weddings conducted by then-Mayor Jason West, and to protest the continuing lack of marriage equality in New York State. |
The event is organized by Billiam van Roestenberg and Jay Blotcher, each of whom was a participant in the 2004 weddings. Center Board Member Jeff Baltes will be among the speakers, along with Jason West and representatives from Marriage Equality of New York and the office of Sen. Tom Duane, chief sponsor of the recently defeated marriage equality bill. All LGBTQ people and allies are welcome, and are encouraged to bring signs expressing their feelings about the issue. The Peace Park is located on Plattekill Avenue in New Paltz, next to the Village Hall. Contact Jay at jblotcher@hvc.rr.com with any questions.
